NPB had the best food for the best price of anything I tried while I was staying jn Miami. If you are into a totally authentic experience, then this is for you. This place serves up amazing Haitian food in a clean, no-frills environment frequented almost exclusively by local Haitian-Americans. The portions are huge - one dish would probably be enough for two people. Our favorite was the Legumes (which, even though it means vegetables, still has generous chunks of meat that give the greens, potatoes, etc an incredibly rich and satisfying flavor). A little of the spicy cabbage side goes a long way, so if you don't do spicy food, you should steer clear of that, but if you like heat, it's great. The savory tomato sauce is wonderful - pour it on everything. So good, and so affordable!

If you're not Haitian (I'm not), here are some things to expect culturally. If you're an English-speaker, expect a little bit of a language barrier when communicating with staff, but don't worry, it's nothing you can't navigate. They are helpful and patient, and the menu is bilingual. NPB does just as much takeout as seated service, so you will see a lot of people just getting off work and picking up dinner. Service is a tad on the slow side, but why rush? (If you've ever heard the expression "Caribbean time", it applies here.) I don't know if this is typical, but when we went, there was no music playing, which was the only thing I thought was kind of odd - totally silent except for hushed conversations at seated tables and casual conversations among people picking up their food.

If you're Haitian, you will love the food. If you're not, but if you tend to like Caribbean food and aren't in a hurry, you will totally fall in love with the food here too. I would eat here every week if I lived nearby - it is awesome, and affordable!

If you're looking for proper Haitian food in Miami, this is the place you're looking for. Located in the Little Haiti neighborhood, this cash only place definitely has excellent food at reasonable prices. The fresh was extremely fresh and fried perfectly. It came with rice and peas and thick fried plantain slices that were both really good! Even the condiments, a kind of red gravy and another spicy sour sauce with cabbage were great, pairing well with the fish. This place definitely gives the IYKYK vibes.
